Scott has been a friend of mine for the past five years. He's one of those people
that when we first met I knew we would get along. Throughout those years we have spent a lot of time snowboarding, skateboarding, partying, working, and living together here and there. I have also seen him get into so many different aspects of snowboarding that is not so typical for a lot of the up and coming riders from his area (Los Angeles). He wants to ride everything and has a real good time doing it. So for the first person I interview for snowboard revolution I choose my friend Scott Blum.
- Joe

Scott Blum

Name:
Scott Blum
DOB:
07-29-86

GEAR:
Any Capita Board, Volcom outerwear, Black bindings, black boots, gore-tex gloves- a beanie, black goggles.

STANCE: Regular
Local Resort: I don't have one

JC: So Scott, where exactly in Los Angeles are you from and how old are you?
SB: I am 21 years old and from Newbury Park, CA

JC: You started spending a lot of time in Mammoth when you were 16, what was that like?
SB: I was hurt and stopped going to school, so I would come to Mammoth to visit my friends and get drunk. I would stay for weeks at a time with not very much money in my pocket. My friends are the shit.

JC: You currently reside in Portland Oregon, Tell everyone how that's going for you.

SB: Portland is amazing. I live across the street from one of the best skate parks and there is a good bar called the Red Room on the corner of my street. It's a good setup.

JC: Has skateboarding influenced your snowboarding, If yes how?
SB: It has influenced my life in every way.

JC: Explain to us what mystery shot's are at the bar down the street from where you
live.

SB: Mystery shots! They cost $1. There are 6 bottles of booze covered in paper bags that have numbers on them 1-6. So you roll the dice and what you roll is the number shot you drink. Number 5 is usually the best.

JC: What kind of stuff have you been riding the past couple of years? How is it
different from just 3 years ago?

SB: I try to do everything. I grew up riding a lot of rails and everything at Mt High and at Bear, but the past few years I've been in the Northwest riding powder.

JC: You travel with your good friend Curtis Ciszek most of your winter, how does
that help you out riding and traveling with someone that your such good friends with and let us know something funny about this past season.

SB: It's good Shit. Curtis is the man.  He is insane to watch and be with when he’s on his snowboard,  skateboard and surfboard. He's really motivating and entertaining for sure. There were way to many funny times to think of just one. For the most part we drove around all year and went snowboarding.

JC: I have seen you sort of raise hell when you've had a few too many cocktails. For
example, what happened just the other night when we went to those girl's condo?

SB: Shoot, These girls were some spoiled b!.chs. I had a bit to drink and their toilet got upper tanked, ugg boots got pissed in and toilet paper covered their downstairs. But whatever,  it happens.

JC: You have had some pretty serious injuries but that doesn't seem to hold you back
much. Have any of those injuries changed your outlook on snowboarding at all?

SB: Fuck yeah, injuries happen. I've been hurt a bunch but the ones that stand out have changed my life for the better. Almost loosing my leg when I was 16 fucked with my head but now I appreciate everything a lot more. Things like skating, snowboarding, riding my motorcycle, walking around...look at that stuff way differently now a days.

JC: What are some things that when you go up to the mountain you would rather not see?

SB: Crowds, skiers and snowboarders looking and acting like gangsters.

JC: Do you listen to music when your snowboarding and skating and what have you been
listening to lately?
SB: I like all types of music; it depends on the mood but some favorites this week are Witchcraft, Pentagram, 3 Inches Of Blood, Neil Young, NWA, and Violent Femmes is what's been playing on my shuffle this trip.

JC: Now name some of the people you really enjoy to see ride a snowboard or what
else get you pumped to get up everyday and snowboard.

SB: I like watching Curstis Ciszek, Harrison Gordon, you, Mark Landvik, Josh Mills... watching any Mark Gonzales, Van Wastell or Jason Jessee makes me want to snowboard these days, so does music and beer.

JC: This fall you had some shots in the new Autumn Line movie. Where you planning on
filming with those guys?
SB: Not at all. I went snowboarding with Gabe(Taylor) and Peter(Benchetler), showed them some snowmobile spots in Baker and we just had a really good time. I didn't have intentions of getting shots with them because I knew these guys were filming parts and wanted good powder shots. So, I hung out with Jeff Curley, rode my snowboard and had fun watching those guys. Good group of people...

JC: Any plans yet for this upcoming season after you leave Mammoth here soon?

SB:  Go wherever my friends are so I can snowboard with them. Skateboard whenever I'm home.  Who Knows?

JC: Are you into doing contests? What's your take on them and are there any that you
like more than others.

SB: They aren't for me. I'm going to snowboard the rest of my life and I feel like I don't need to prove to myself or anyone else that I'm good at it or feel pressure to do a trick.  I hate energy drinks and the idea of people trying to one up each other.

JC: What would you say your favorite type of terrain to ride?

SB: Everything, whatever is put in front of me I want to be able to ride it.

JC: That seems like a pretty good way to think of things. Let's wrap this thing up
and thank your sponsors and people that have helped you out.

SB:  everyone at capita snowboards, volcom, valsurf, vestal ; thank you for everything. Greg Flack.  The RedRoom.  flux.  Curtis.  Dennis Foster. Harrison.  Brett @ CTi.  Brandon Richards. Julio and El Bandito.   All my friends.
