Whiteface Still Going Strong with Spectacular Skiing and Riding Conditions and Spring Events
Wilmington, N.Y. – Whiteface is still going strong, with spectacular skiing and riding conditions as well as upcoming springtime events.
The annual Apple Butter Open Moguls Competition, sponsored by Forrence Orchards, will be Saturday, April 5. This event is free and open to all those who enjoy the bumps. Competitors will begin the race at noon on Boreen.
This year’s Pond Skimming Contest is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. All skiers and riders are invited to participate in the yearly attempt to cross the pond and stay dry. The fun begins at high noon outside the base lodge, and prizes will be given out for Longest Distance, Biggest and Best Splash, Best Costume and more.
Interested participants may sign up for the Apple Butter Open and/or the Pond Skimming Contest at Whiteface’s Guest Services Desk by 11 am on the day of competition.
High Peaks Cyclery is hosting a second Randonnée Rally Race on Sunday, April 13 at Whiteface. The race begins at 7 am. After the race, there will be a post-race party in the Cloudspin Lounge featuring awards, food, drinks and raffle prizes provided by High Peaks Cyclery.
The Randonnée Rally features a mass LeMans start with two course options. Athletes may choose to race the short course in which they will climb to mid-station before descending, or they can choose the more difficult Long Course Race where athletes will climb approximately to the top of Mountain Run before descending to the base area. Exact course details will be released on race day as courses will be weather and condition dependent.
While climbing, all skiers must use climbing skins, and either telemark skis or AT skis for the descent. No snowshoes or boot packing will be allowed.
The $10 registration fee will be donated to the Whiteface conservation efforts. Athletes may register online at highpeakscyclery.com; pick up a registration form at High Peaks Cyclery at 2733 Main Street, Lake Placid; or register the day of the race outside of Guest Services at Whiteface.
Whiteface 2008-09 ski and ride season passes are on sale now at whiteface.com. All passes purchased this spring for next season are also valid for the remainder of the 2007-08 season.
