One such organization, SOS Outreach (formerly the Snowboard Outreach Society), is celebrating their 14th season on the slopes of The Summit. This winter, 215 at-risk youth from the Seattle area are participating in the program.
"With the amazing support of The Summit team, SOS Outreach is not only able to teach kids how to snowboard but instill important core values that can be reflected back into their lives," said Julia Aman, Northwest program coordinator for SOS. "The opportunity that The Summit helps SOS provide shows youth that they are important individuals and they can safely and effectively conquer challenges."
In addition to supporting several youth-oriented organizations, The Summit also partners with non-profit groups that create awareness for health issues, develop awareness for environmental issues, and help youth and adults living with disabilities.
Some of these key relationships include:
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Creates awareness and raises funds to help patients and their families fighting blood cancers. This winter marked the first annual LLS benefit weekend at The Summit, which raised nearly $4,000.
Outdoors For All: Founded 30 years ago at The Summit, Outdoors For All provides opportunities and equipment for youth and adults with disabilities to participate in outdoor activities all year round. They are one of the largest adaptive ski and snowboard programs in the country.
Snowrider Project: Creates awareness and a better understanding of environmental issues that effect water quality.
Burton Chill: An intervention program designed to help inner-city, at-risk youth by giving them the knowledge and devices they need to snowboard and build self-esteem.
Special Olympics: Offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in physical activities.
TSB The Service Board: Provides support and mentors to Seattle’s high school age at-risk youth to help build self-knowledge and determination.
The Summit at Snoqualmie has also given a number of lift tickets, lesson packages and other exciting opportunities to various hospitals, schools and charities.
