The Park Wide Open held at Big Bear Mountain Resort is an event that every season I always try to spend some time at. This year was no different and as always everyone that helps put event on do an awesome job and makes it so much fun for all the riders that are lucky enough to be there. Etnies Goofy vs. Regular contest started the week out with a big bang putting together a cool contest and getting rid of a lot of money for the riders. With that all being done with the rest of the week was called open photo and video shoots that I guess meant that the cat drivers and park staff were just going to make all this really cool shit to ride for everybody that came to Bear for the “Wide Open.” This was the second part of my little trip down to Big Bear if you missed the GvR full report and Tales From the Trips: Bear Mtn: Day 1 check em out . My day started out pretty early and I hadn't got a chance to ride with some of the little gangster looking kids. If you have ever been to Bear you have seen them and know them as the Midget Mafia. Anthony, Lenny, Justin, Zak, and Daniel are some kids that I have seen in Bear for the past 5 years and are all good homies that snowboard everyday together and have a lot of fun doing it. So keep an eye out for these dudes because you will be hearing more from them soon. Then for the rest I cruised around with a lot of different people and it was really cool to see how different snowboarders will shred that place so different. Scott Stevens was one of those people bouncing around on everything and displaying his sick style and crazy board control. Mayor of Bear mountain Chris Bradshaw was there everyday cruising and doing a little filming with Justin Meyer for Transworld’s 20 tricks video. Bear local Johnny Miller was seen putting down moves all week showing Canadian shredder Louif Paradis some lines. Keep an eye out for transworld's new movie “These Days” that Louif is filming for now. Nick Russell found the cure for swamp-ass in your snowboard pants and threw on some board shorts to get some airflow going in the 70-degree weather. As the day came to a close we headed to “The Scene” to witness some serious moves going down on the Kink rail and some of the other new stuff they set up for next nights contest. Pretty much if you have never been to Bear you are really blowing it unless you hate riding park with endless features on the whole mountain, nice warm weather and hot SoCal chicks riding around in very tiny shirts.
