Rome SDS at Upper Peninsula Mayhem
Ok first off I’ll apologize in advance if I sound a little pissy…….. I am. I’m stuck here in LAX trying to get back to VT to edit the teaser (that’s right very shortly we’ll be teasing you) I just made a trip from hell, I drove from Michigan to SLC tried to get on a flight there, and it’d didn’t work so I drove from SLC to Reno, got on a flight there, flew to LAX and now because of “weather” on the east coast I will be sitting here for like….ever.
But enough of my pointless bitching, the last couple days before I started my death drive were really sick, I left my camera in Reno so some of the photos you’ll have to wait on, but here are some nuggets from the Upper Peninsula.
Max headed back to Montreal to get his elbow looked at and the doctor told him the unfortunate news that indeed once again he had a broken bone floating around in there. He should be ok though he plans on pulling a Marius and just going for it until the season is over. After Max left, Yan and I drove way the hell up to northern Michigan to meet Pete Harvieux and the Casualties crew for their snowboard camp.
The camp was great, you can read about it in an earlier post, but what was also great was that LNP joined us as well as photographer Nate Abbott. We ventured around the Upper Peninsula and found some amazing stuff to ride. The guys shredded the towns like they were skating San Fransisco hills. It was awesome unique stuff that I’m sure you’re all going to love in the movie. It was funny though because the cities were small enough that the cops would bust us but already know about what we were up to…..”You guys can’t go ski boarding down these hills, It’s the best way to get hit by a car” Ha!...really funny. They must have been radioing around to each other. “You guys flew all the way here to ride our streets?”
There was also a really high concentration of frats in this spot, something LNP could not grasp the concept of…..”So wait there’s whole houses of just dudes, they all live together and are really psyched about it?, that is kinda weird” He would ask puzzeled. The frats all had some crazy contest where they made ice sculptures so all over town there were huge sculptures….like huge ones, it was pretty impressive. Another thing that was pretty awesome was the amount of people just ripping around on sleds, the local college even had a sled parking lot, you don’t see that every day. We also ate at Pizza Hut 5 times in 7 days, we’ve been diggin the breadsticks and pie diet for sure, plus they had this weird trivia game that Yan would try to stump me with, making all kinds of weird bets. Didn’t work out so well for him though.
Lnp’s style has really gone a little crazy, I don’t think He and Yan could be anymore opposite but the two of them have a blast hanging and filming together and it was pretty much non stop comedy. People have been stopping Laurent and taking pictures of him, we had one drunk srceaming “Hey Charlie Manson” at him over and over again. It kinda looks like he just stepped off stage from playing back up guitar for Jimi Hendrix
We definitely have to say what’s up to a shop called Rhythm in Houghton, we got kicked out of a certain college in less than thirty seconds, and upon going into the shop the owner informed us that his dad was the dean there, after some phone calls we were back in, this time fully legit. It’s not every day you get a call from the President of the college saying he’d love to have you come film there…Booyeah!
The night before the camp the guys went to a wild ass karaoke bar where things went a little crazy for sure. It was good style, you’ll prolly see footy from it some time in the near future. I haven’t been letting the guys drink beers unless they get shots for the movie, that night everyone collected on their drinks so it was good times. Alright that is enough for now, I’ll update again soon unless I slit my own throat here in the airport.
