Stoken at 7 Springs, PA
Ever had those days (or trips, or years) of snowboarding where the snow is just ok, or the terrain is kinda boring, or the weather kinda sucks….but you still have a great time because you make the best of it and its still better than sitting in school or being at work? To some snow shredders these days are spoiled and don’t understand how to make the best of what is given to them.
This past Saturday was the Rome Stoken event at 7 Springs in western PA. The Stoken is always a good time because it brings out the true nature of snowboarding, to make the best of what you have. There was some concern since 7 Springs does such a good job at making fun terrain parks, that the riders would be spoiled…but this was definitely not the case. This crew had a ton of heart and didn’t need much schooling.
Sometimes, its fun to jib a tree or slide a log in the woods, sometimes its fun to make a jump and wallride the side of a lodge. This was lesson 1 of the Stoken. Everybody was definitely stepping to the logjam and wallride at the bottom of the park. Every rider passed the test and proved they knew how to “think outside the park”.
Sometimes, halfpipes (or ‘trick-ditches’ as they are occasionally called down south) aren’t all that well kept up near the end of the season and you can only get one or two good hits out of them. Sometimes, you get sick of watching all those big name pro’s riding a perfect pipe during huge comps. This was lesson 2 of the Stoken. Riders definitely passed the trick ditch test and were throwing big airs and style-e lip tricks. Even SDS rep J Smith couldn’t resist getting some during this event.
Sometimes, its fun to ollie over stuff (i.e. snow guns, ropes that close off trails, out of control ski club groms or the occasional skier that’s fallen and laying on the ground groaning). Sometimes, its fun to see how hard you can tweak out of a mogul field. This was the final exam of the Stoken. While we set up the high ollie bump and measurement bar, riders were getting their tweak on in the mogul field just above. The high ollie event proved to be a favorite for spectators and on looking hot dog eaters. A few riders were olling almost 7 feet off of the bump! It was super fun to watch and a good way to wind up the day.
A few riders in the end proved top of the class and got some free stuff to show for it. 3rd place went to (sorry man, I forgot your name, but we put your picture up) the guy with the triple tall Rasta tee. 2nd place went to Matt Guess who got a brand new pair of 390’s. 1st place and head of the class went to Tristan Sadler who got a brand new Rome Cheap Trick.
I think everyone had a great time, maybe learned a thing or two and ate plenty of hot dogs. Big thanks to Danny and everyone from the 7 Springs park crew. Also thanks to Kevin for MCing all day and pimping that cane real hard.

Rome SDS Stoken Pays a Visit to Echo Mountain Park in CO
Saturday March 15th Echo Mountain Park was the host to the second annual Stoken. 40 plus riders were in attendance, shredder age ranged from 8 to 24.
Despite a gloomy forecast we arrived to bluebird skies, and a radical setup for the Stoken.
The first of 3 sessions went down on a spine with corrugated tube mega-coping. This was an awesome feature and it allowed riders to hit it several different ways. We saw a lot of skate style lip tricks, and saw a few kids get destroyed trying to ollie over and while catching their nose on the way up. However, most gnarly fall did walk away with a new pair of Rome emblem gloves, at Stoken, even the losers are winners.
Our second session brought some mystery flavor as Riders got to session a line with the Rome jersey barrier or picnic table, then funneling down to a tire stall and picnic table stall. On these features we started to see a big gap in the level of riding. A lot of kids stuck to the picnic table line, and won Rome schwag just for stomping some simple tricks. Meanwhile the jersey barrier was seeing all sorts of hard way press LNP style tricks as well as some classic bs tail and fs board steez.
Last but not least was the reverse limbo, aka the ollie contest. We started the bar at 2 feet and rose it 2" every lap. Riders were allowed one rebate ollie. If you knocked the bar off twice, you’re done. Highest ollie of the day went to the Wizz at 3'ft 8".
The Top three broke down with Mike Lucido winning and taking home a new Rome board, Collin Spencer in 2nd winning some Rome arsenal bindings, Chris Sypert 3rd and best trick winning new Rome gloves and pack, and former Rome intern Libby claiming the Most Radical Lady shred and getting some Strut bindings. Thanks to Echo Mountain Park and everyone who attended.

Rome SDS makes its return to Summit at Snoqualmie for Stoken!
words by Sam
Sunday Sunday Sunday! A day typically reserved for church and coliseum events that will sell you the whole seat when you will only need the edge, turned out to be a great time to Amp the Stoke.
Greeted with a high overcast skies and a massive snow pack, Jeff and his park crew had some rad features set-up.
First up came the barrel feature. 360 bonks were gettin dropped all four ways, backside disasters and blunt stalls were put down with mad style, and some even went as far to use the feature as a pole jam boosting floaty backside ones and even a few front flips.
After an intense hour long session, the snowmobile was fired up and the mobile music trailer was dragged up to a perfectly cut quarterpipe. Everybody took a run and fifteen minutes later the tweak-air portion of this contest was underway. There were more tweaks getting thrown down than in a brawl at trailer park.
Notable tricks included Austin Hironaka's tuck knee indy's, Austin Sweetin monster nose grabs, and office legs himself Forrest Wedmore boosted a few Methods in his newly acquired Rome outerwear. After 45 minutes of technical wizardry on the QP the herd was moved down to the base camp for a high ollie contest and a BBQ.
With a large crowd and a gross amount of hotdogs the stage was set for some good ole fashion bro'in down. This we did and it was good.
Big thanks to Summit at Snoqualmie, Jeff and his park crew for the sick set-up and Matty-P for letting me sleep on their mini-ramp.
