Park City, Utah - Mammoth Mountain Chairman and CEO Rusty Gregory, a longtime resort industry veteran, has been named as a trustee of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation, according to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt.
"Rusty brings valuable assets to our Foundation with his business leadership achievements and expertise within skiing and snowboarding," said Marolt. "He has been successful in his longstanding ability to motivate people and raise the bar. The evolution of Mammoth Mountain as a company is a great story. Rusty played an important role in carrying the vision of founder Dave McCoy forward, growing the resort as a thriving business. Mammoth Mountain has always been an important venue for our organization as a grassroots development center and a world class competition site.
"Rusty represents the type of passionate and insightful leader we want on our board of trustees to help provide even greater opportunities for our athletes."
"While it is an honor to join the many talented and accomplished individuals in business and philanthropy on the Foundation board, I'm most excited by the prospects of becoming part of a group who has a deep passion for skiing, riding, competition and mountains," said Gregory.
Gregory started his career with Mammoth as a lift operator in 1978. He was promoted to CEO in 1996, appointed chairman in 2003 and is now one of the resort's five major shareholders. He has also served as the head of the Mammoth Mountain Land Company and formerly owned Mammoth Heli-Ski, a helicopter skiing company permitted by the National Forest Service to operate throughout the Eastern Sierra.
"I look forward to tapping the relationships I have developed during my 31 years in the ski industry and along with the platform afforded by my ownership stake in Mammoth Mountain to bring the awareness and attention to the U.S. ski and snowboarding athletes and programs that they have earned but as yet not received," the Mammoth Mountain leader added.
His leadership also extends to boards inside and outside of the industry. Gregory is chairman of the National Ski Areas Association. He also serves with The Yosemite Fund, Valentine Reserve Fund, Sierra Business Council, Whittier College and a is founder of Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc. He was appointed as a director of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and serves on the California Travel and Tourism Commission.
Gregory and his wife Bonnie, a CPA, reside in Mammoth Lakes and have two sons, Jackson 13 and Michael 22.
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation is the non-profit fundraising arm of the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding. Its board of trustees provides valuable leadership and guidance, as well as financial support to help provide year-round athlete training, development, competition and educational needs. The U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding receive no federal funding or subsidy monies and operate solely through private donations, corporate sponsorships and grants.
