Park City, Utah - Snowboarding prodigy Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA), who recently put a World Cup win on his list of accomplishments, has been added to the 2008 U.S. Snowboarding roster. Bretz will join the U.S. Snowboarding halfpipe pro team, Snowboarding Director Jeremy Forster announced.
"Back-to-back podiums and a win in Stoneham is pretty awesome," Forster said. "He is a super talented young rider and we are stoked to have him join our U.S. Snowboarding program"
According to Forster, Bretz's achievements in World Cup competition this season, as well as his second-place finish at the Tamarack, ID, Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, earned him his spot with U.S. Snowboarding.
"Greg is exactly the kind of young explosive rider that we want to be with U.S. Snowboarding. He has a go for it mentality and never holds back," said U.S. Snowboarding Halfpipe Head Coach Mike Jankowski. "His drive and his will coupled with his skill and his style really make him stand out. We are happy and proud to add Greg to our team."
The 17-year-old rider started competing on the World Cup circuit in January of 2008. Only four competitions later, he has two podiums and one win to his name. He also picked up another second place finish at the Killington, VT, Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix.
"He's fun to watch. If you see Greg Bretz go down the halfpipe, you're going to look twice and say, 'who is that,'" Jankowski said.
Bretz is riding this weekend at the Burton U.S. Open in Stratton Mountain, VT.
