Free Riding For Local Schools Last Weekend Of The 2007/2008 Season
Steamboat Springs, Colo.- Steamboat Springs, Craig, Hayden, Meeker, Rangely, Oak Creek, Walden, Yampa and Maybell Elementary, Junior/Middle and High School students, faculty and school employees are set to enjoy the slopes of the Steamboat Ski Area for FREE during the last weekend of the season, April 5th & 6th, 2008.
“This is the tenth season the resort has offered free skiing/riding for local schools at the end of season,” said Chris Diamond, president of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “This program enables students, faculty and school employees to try firsthand the sport of skiing or snowboarding absolutely FREE. We want every student in the Yampa Valley to have the opportunity to give the sport a try during this record-breaking season.”
Students, faculty and school employees simply check in at the Main Ticket Office to pick up their ticket. Proof of enrollment is required, so students need to bring a copy of their report card or other appropriate enrollment documentation. Additionally, proof of employment is required for faculty & school employees.
In addition, for family members who wish to join their student, tickets will be available at the Main Ticket Office for $43 per day. Students and family members must pick up their tickets at the same time.
The Steamboat Ski Area will close for the 2007/2008 ski and snowboard season on Sunday, April 6, 2008 with the inaugural Springalicious festival, April 5th & 6th, a weekend celebration of the record 2007/2008 Champagne Powder® snow season. Upper mountain lifts will start closing at 3:00 p.m., with lower mountain lifts closing at 3:30 p.m. on April 6th for the celebration.
The Cardboard Classic, Steamboat’s traditional rite of spring, and the new SPLASHDOWN Pond Skimming competition will act as the cornerstone events for the Springalicious festival, which also features free concerts by American Relay, The Radiators and Susan Tedeschi. The Cardboard Classic will celebrate its 28th year on Saturday, April 5th, featuring homemade cardboard crafts racing to a hysterical finish. New this year, entries will be limited to 50 crafts and there will be a $10/per craft entry fee that will be donated to Yampa Valley Recycles.
For the first year ever, Springalicious will feature a SPLASHDOWN Pond Skimming Competition Sunday, April 6th. Steamboat’s bravest (and maybe craziest) skiers/riders will attempt to cross an ice-cold pond at the base of the mountain, while being judged on distance, outfit creativity, and crowd response. SPLASHDOWN Entries will be limited to 75 individuals with a $25 entry fee. In addition to the new H2O event, Springalicious will feature something just for kids- a Jib Jam featuring a variety of small park features just for kids on April 6th at 3:15pm. Registration is currently underway at the Information Center in Gondola Square for both events.
