Sungwoo Resort, Korea - Gregory Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA) stomped out a tight run to finish second, and Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) competed in her second event of the weekend to finish third in a World Cup halfpipe competition. Riders competed at the Sungwoo Resort - the site of next year's FIS Snowboard World Championships.
Bretz, who finished second at the Tamarack, ID, Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix just over a week ago, is an up-and-coming independent rider. He's been developing his skills with U.S. Snowboarding athletes, including Tommy Czeschin (Mammoth Lakes, CA) and Elijah Teter (South Lake Tahoe, CA) who finished eighth and ninth in Saturday's World Cup competition.
X Games silver medalist Ryoh Aono of Japan won the men's halfpipe and Louri Podladtchikov of Switzerland finished third.
Jacobellis, the reigning X Games gold medalist, has put most of her focus on snowboardcross recently. But, she showed the world why she's the most fierce woman on the scene by grabbing third in the halfpipe a day after she finished second in World Cup snowboardcross races.
"My body and my legs were very tired. I tried it once again in the second run by adding another spin but my body just said "no”. But it was fun riding today. It was a very good weekend for me. To jump on the podium twice is awesome,” Jacobellis said.
Jiayu Liu of China won the woman's competition and Soko Yamaoka of Japan was second.
The FIS World Cup wraps up Sunday with a parallel giant slalom.
