Desolate Delight at the Berdhouse Gallery
Los Angeles – Berdhouse Gallery is pleased to present Los Angeles based artist Derek Albeck and UK Based artist French to the gallery. The exhibition of new drawings and prints opens with a reception on May 9th from 7-10pm, and continues through June 8th, 2008.
For this exhibit UK based artist, French in collaboration with resident Los Angeles artist, Derek Albeck, have produced a series of new drawings and prints. Working meticulously in the mediums of pen on paper and acrylic on paper the two artists share a common obsession with fine line and detail. Never have you seen a finer depiction of a Chaucerian monk furrowing his brow, or a knight releasing his locks to mingle fantastically with ornate armor. The intricate line quality of French’s bearded Knights are rendered in a tradition that evokes the drawing skills of great masters such as Durer, but draw inspiration from19th century Illustrators such as Gustave Dore. Where French’s work falls no short of shocking, Albeck’s work takes on a highly stylized, somewhat abstract approach to figurative drawing/painting. Allegorical at best describes the descents taken by the harrowed subjects of Albecks new series of falling peoples. The subjects, saturated in pattern reflect upon the everyday plight of the individual into a world full of routines and angst.
Coming together from across the pond, French and Albeck have twisted there worlds together to bring you their own selection of desolate delights.
