Closing Weekend Celebration at Big Sky Resort
Big Sky, Mont. - Get out the costumes, old skis, even a swimsuit because it's pond-skimming time. Now in its 5th year, the annual Spring Run-Off at Big Sky Resort is back and better than ever. The pond skim is accompanied by a full day of events and live music that will extend far into the night. Saturday, April 12, is a day of celebration as the ski season comes to a close.
The weekend's festivities will get started on Friday, April 11 with Afternoon Delight, a Best Trick competition at 2pm at the base of Ambush. Big air, music, prizes and hotdogs will entertain viewers as competitors launch over a 45-foot jump spinning and flipping to delight.
On Saturday, a pond is built at the base of the headwall on Ambush for skiers and snowboarders to test the water. The event is free to spectators and prospective skimmers and swimmers are required to register and sign a waiver, entry fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt. Registrants under 18 years old will require a guardian's signature. Registration will be from 11-1 p.m. at the Summit Clock Tower; space is limited so sign up early. At 3 p.m. brave participants speed down the run and try their best to make it across the chilly pond to impress the hundreds of spectators.
Beginning at 10am, the plaza will be hopping with music from DJ Joe and children's activities including face painting and a bouncer room. The Burger Bar will be open for food and libations throughout the day. Following the pond skim, musical guests Politician will perform live in the plaza at 4 p.m.
At 8 p.m. the live music moves inside to Whiskey Jack's. Bozeman based Hooligans will be rocking with Stu Allen. The show is 21 and older and there is no cover charge so come and celebrate the season with some great music.
"With such an amazing season we wanted to finish it off with an amazing weekend of events." said Big Sky PR Manager, Dax Schieffer. "The crowd grows every year, I'm pretty sure last year at the pond skim I saw two bears, a ballerina and even a leprechaun skimming across the pond, costumes are encouraged and rewarded by the crowd."
