Four Michigan athletes swept podiums at the fifth Burton AM Series stop at Boyne Highlands last weekend, and all four first-place finishers won wildcard spots into the US Open Snowboarding Championships, the largest and most prestigious snowboard event in the world, to be held March 17-23 at Stratton Mountain, Vermont.
In the Slopestyle, Rob Michel (Petoskey, Mich.), won the Men’s competition and Ashley Vander Meer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) took the Women’s event. In Halfpipe, Pat Markiewicz (Petoskey, Mich.) won the Men’s competition and Helene Dryden (Traverse City, Mich.) won the Women’s competition.
The Burton AM Series is an all new U.S. six-stop competition series that gives amateur riders around the country a chance to compete for spots in the US Open Snowboarding Championships at Stratton Mountain, Vt. on March 17th – 23rd, 2008. All Burton AM Series stops in the US are part of the annual Burton Demo Tour Super Stop events, where riders can test ride the latest Burton Snowboard gear for FREE at their favorite local resort.
AM Series events are open for all amateur competitors and feature men’s and women’s Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions. Men’s and women’s first place winners in each discipline will receive a wildcard entry into the US Open Snowboarding Championships. Equal prize money will be awarded to both men and women in the Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions: $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd, in addition to Burton product including boards, bindings, bags and ANON goggles and shades.
