A Record Breaking Season at Sun Peaks Resort!
Sun Peaks, BC – It was a record-breaking winter season at Sun Peaks Resort. After a fun-filled Spring Festival last weekend, skier visits surpassed 342,000. That’s a 5% increase over skier visits last season!
The season was packed with fun, unique events, including the 10th annual Ice Wine Festival in January. Competition reached a new level this winter with the TELUS Para-Alpine Canadian Championships, and for the first time, Sun Peaks hosted the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing (CADS) Race Improvement and Development Festival. This event was so successful, the CADS Festival will return to Sun Peaks in March 2009.
Planning is already underway to make the Winter 2008-09 season the best ever at Sun Peaks. Things to watch for next winter…
* Increased Grooming – Two new Pisten Bully groomers have been added to the growing fleet, one of which is an “Edge” groomer that has the capability to run specialty grinders for the tube and terrain parks. * Increased Snowmaking Capacity – Sun Peaks continues to be the leader in the BC’s Interior with increased snowmaking, ensuring a reliable early season. * Improved Nordic Trails – A new Yellowstone Dual Track Setter and Pisten Bulley groomer have been purchased to add to the reliability and consistency of the cross-country experience. * New WINTERSTEIGER Tuning Equipment – Sun Peaks has purchased two brand new machines capable of reproducing ‘factory finishes’ on skis and snowboards of any width. The new WINTERSTEIGER Sigma SBI features a 350mm wide stone and belt and up to 40 individual grinding programs. These machines will be located in the new Time to Ride Rental and Repair Centre in the Delta Sun Peaks Resort Hotel. * Additional Ticketing Options – Ticket sales are now available at each rental station in the Village Day Lodge Rental Shop for a single point of purchase for lift and rentals. * Bridge Gate Skier’s Bridge – A new half-million dollar skier overpass will provide improved ski-in access to East Village properties.
The snow is melting and Sun Peaks will soon turn into a gorgeous alpine paradise. The Sun Peaks Golf Course is scheduled to open May 17th and the Sunburst Chairlift opens for hiking and mountain biking on June 28th. Things to watch for this summer…
* Increased Bike-Lift Capacity – The Sunburst chairlift will be fitted to increase capacity by 25%. It will have the ability to carry 4 bikes versus 3, resulting in more riding and less waiting. And with 595 vertical metres each ride…that’s plenty of terrain! * Better Trail Signage – Sun Peaks listened to its guests last summer and are committed to improving summer trail signage for both hiking and biking. * Exciting Events – There will be events all summer, including the Wine and Culture Festival, Jo’s Road Race, and off-the-hook celebrations during Canada Day and BC Day Weekend.
