2008 Snow-JahZee™ Results
Hoch Ybrig, Switzerland - On the last weekend, the best snowboarders found their way to the resort of Hoch Ybrig for one reason: this year’s Snow-JahZee 08.
On Saturday the qualification was successfully held and the young riders from the area were leading the riders field. The Snow-JahZee Final on Sunday had to be cancelled, because of very strong storm like wind, but alternatively a spontaneous Snow-JahZee Session took place:
Gian Luca Cavigelli from Marly (Fribourg) went for the first place in the Style Judgement just before Iouri Podlatchikov, who got second. Besides, there were two other winners in the categories of "Hardest" and "Funniest Trick".
The Snow-JahZee 08 qualifications started off very well on Saturday morning! 40 Snowboarders came running through the inscription to catch their tickets and get on the sunny mountain to measure themselves with other riders and to gamble for the cool combo prizes. The unique contest format, which consists of ticking off as many possible jump variations (from straight air to 180° until 720° and the whole thing switch, frontside and backside) as possible during a session, where every rider has nine counting runs over two kickers, has been adapted to the qualification and therefore the quali was held on one kicker with all the riders getting nine tries to show their versatility.
At the same time every rider could win wicked combo prizes through cleverly combining the arrangement of his tricks. In the end there was a tie between Kilian Wiget, Simon le Fevre and Michael Meier and so they decided who should be first, second and third with a little game named “SigSagSug” and “rock paper scissors”. In general, the level of the many young riders was quite high and numerous tricks on the Snow-JahZee cards could be ticked off.
With the award ceremony and the champagne rain, the Snow-JahZee Saturday finished.
New at this year’s Snow-JahZee edition was, that on Sunday in the final, the ten invited riders would be fighting for the Red Bull Perfect, for the SigSagSug Home BBQ and for the treasured combo prizes along with the 20 Quali riders who made the cut on Saturday. But neither the Red Bull Perfect nor the SigSagSug Home BBQ could be given away. The problem wasn’t the riders’ failure on the difficult tricks, it was because of storm like strong winds, which enabled going over the big kickers. Therefore the Snow-JahZee Final could not be held, even if the sun was shining, the contest setup was perfect and the riders were motivated. The organisers SigSagSug and NBC Crew then decided together with all the snowboarders, that only hitting the small kickers was possible and so, spontaneously the Snow-JahZee Session came to life!
During the session, the riders could fight for great prizes in the categories: "Best Style", "Hardest Trick" and "Funniest Trick".
The riders wouldn’t miss that chance then and packed out their most stylish, hardest and funniest tricks.
Gian Luca Cavigelli from Marly (Fribourg, Switzerland) got first in the style judgement with his nicely pulled trough and long grabbed Frontside 360°. He took home the Pukas-Vans limited edition surfboard sponsored by Vans.
In the hardest trick judgement, David Bertschinger went for the first place, when he sticked his solid Frontside 900°. The funniest trick went to Hoch Ybrig local Nik “Fizzle” Huber who front flipped over the kicker with a baby board strapped to his feet. He and David could choose their prizes, it was either a Motorola Mobile Phone or a La Cie hard disc.
But also the triple winner from the last years of Snow-JahZee, Reto Kestenholz, didn’t go home with empty hands. He made the second hardest trick, and can therefore now go and relax in the Asia Spa for a day!
Summarizing it can be said, that the familiar vibe on the mountain and the funny and slack ambiance during the Snow-JahZee Session, compensated the cancellation of the Snow-JahZee Final and thanks to all people involved, the Snow-JahZee Weekend was ended with a glorious prize giving.
