2008 Quiksilver Showdown Over the City Results

North Vancouver BC – One of Canada’s largest Pro-Am Contest took place at Grouse Mountain this weekend. The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City brought together the best professional and amateur riders from around the world to Vancouver’s backyard playground where they competed for cash prizes totalling $20,000.  For the first time, this event was included in the Swatch TTR World Tour, the largest international snowboard contest body.

Despite unseasonably cold and snowy conditions, this year’s event doubled its competitor list. Sub-zero temperatures and at times, high winds didn’t stop some of the best riders both locally and internationally from coming out to compete.

 “We are really happy with the participation this year,” says Jeff Silcock, Events Manager at Grouse Mountain.  “Being selected by the Swatch TTR World Tour certainly raised the caliber of this event. It was a rare opportunity to showcase this level of talent in Vancouver.”

This year’s course on the Lower Peak drew some big crowds. Just a short walk from the skyride, and with a great vantage point from the Rusty Rail patio, perfect views of the competition were easy to find. With a Coor’s Light After Party at Altitude’s Bistro and a Saturday night Party at the Lamplighter in Gastown, there was plenty to celebrate.
