2008 If Ullr Was a Girl Results

Whistler, BC – This year’s Ullr Girl rides on one plank instead of two. Pro snowboarder Bev Vuilleumier, hailing from Incline Village, NV, took home the $25,000 prize purse and pimped out Viking helmet at the 2008 If Ullr Was a Girl contest.

The shocked rider, gripping a giant cheque and donning a bejeweled helmet, called her mom from the side of the stage to tell her the good news.

“The competition was a lot of fun, and it was a tight race,” says Bev. “Everyone killed it and we all had a good time. I was so stoked and happy, but shocked because I never really thought I was going to be the lucky one to walk away with the title. I was so excited to be up on stage with all of my friends. That meant a lot to me.

The full-time business student plans to save her winnings to help her continue shredding all season long next year.

Four wildcard amateur athletes won a spot in the competition by submitting a profile on  ifullrwasagirl.com. They joined 12 pro skiers and riders in the all-ladies competition featuring three on-mountain disciplines and one arts and culture talent show.

The Big Mountain competition took place on Blackcomb Mountain’s Jersey Cream Bowl in an area called High Test. And what a test it was. The challenging spring conditions served up a dose of gnar, but the ladies still managed to shred. Locals Robin Van Gyn and Ariana Stufano took top spots in their respective snowboarding and skiing categories.

Rider Dominique Vallee and skier Sarah Burke took top spots during the Ullr Superpipe competition, also on Blackcomb. Bev ruled the snowboard category during the Nikita Chickita Jib Jam, while wildcard athlete Kristie Geiles took top skiing spot.

The arts and culture evening, Ullr Unleashed, featured a variety of talents from the girls, including an interpretive dance by Michelle Zeller; a piano solo by Dom; a karaoke rendition of “Sunglasses at Night” by Jess Cumming and her pooch; a rap by Bev, and various paintings by a number of competitors. Dom, a crowd favourite, won for the second year in a row with her musical talents.

Vuilleumier is one of four pro athletes who returned from last year’s If Ullr Was a Girl competition. Vallee (Squamish, BC), Jess Cumming (Boulder, CO) and Sarah Burke (Whistler, BC) also participated last year. Skier Grete Eliassen won the competition last year, but was unable to enter this year, due to injury.
