2008 Canadian Snowboard Nationals: Snowboardcross Results
Vancouver, B.C. - Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) decided to get one more win under his belt for the 2008 season and took the Canadian Snowboard Nationals by storm on Saturday at Cypress Mountain outside Vancouver.
The Canadian SBX Nationals were held on the 2010 Olympic snowboardcross trail at Cypress Mountain. Derek Wintermans won the men's Canadian title.
"I thought my season was over after winning the Jeep King of the Mountain event, but we [are] here and checking out the Olympic venue," Holland said. "It was mainly for training purposes and I didn't think I was going to get that competitive but once I got here and started riding I just jumped in. I did one heat and I was like 'OK, I'm ready to try and win this thing.'"
In the men's final heat, Holland went head to head with Drew Neilson of Canada and Pierre Vaultier of France to take the win. Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) was fifth.
"It was a sweet race. They were super tight the whole way and Nate took it," said U.S. Snowboarding Head Coach Peter Foley. "It's nice because it's the Olympic hill so it was a good experience."
"It's just a cherry on top of my season," Holland said. "Having the Olympics here on this hill stokes me out. It's an amazing course."
Simona Meiler of Switzerland won the women's SBX competition followed by Canadian Maelle Ricker who took the title. Mellie Francon, also of Switzerland, was third. No U.S. women competed.
