2007-2008 Volcom PBRJ: Lake Louise Results

The 14th stop of the 2007/08 North American Peanut Butter & Rail Jam tour slammed into the Canadian Rockies at Lake Louise, AB Sat March 22, 2008!

As the PBRJ tour has evolved over the past seven seasons, we’ve had the opportunity to grow close with the resorts and their terrain. This statement couldn’t be more true when it comes to Lake Louise. 2008 marks our 5th annual pilgrimage to the land of steep mountains and those who’ll tell a good story given the chance. Though the faces have shifted over the years, the vibe, atmosphere and attitude have remained the same. Danielle Sherman is the new girl holding down the special events scene at Lake Louise and did a good job making us feel at home!

The PBRJ got underway shortly after 10am featuring the progressive stylings of the 15 & Under Division. With each stop that goes by, it is becoming more and more apparent that the 15 & Under riders are on some kind of a mission and doing more then their fair share of ripping! The Lake Louise contingent was no exception and put on a helluva show for all in attendance! Though all the scores were super tight, it was Pierce Mimura locking-in 1st, Jordan Blain in 2nd and good ‘ol Spencer Lajeunesse came in a close 3rd!

The 16 & Over Division was up next and somehow found a way to take their riding to the next level! The three custom PBRJ zones that James and the terrain park crew had painstakingly eased into place were systematically destroyed! We were treated to an impressive array of hammers including nollie back lips, 270 back tails and more then a few riders were gapping to the business end of the down-flat-down box! After the scores were diligently examined by our team of tabulation technicians, Trint Thomas slid into 1st Micheal Cust claimed 2nd and Justin Mossing banged out 3rd!

The Girls were up next and didn’t lose a beat to the gentlemen! The skill of the ladies has been steadily improving over the years and I must admit the Lake Louise group are on the cutting edge of this movement! Serious skills my friends. We saw a switch 5-0, switch front board and a buttery back tailslide during the session! When all the tricks had been thrown down, it was Brook Voigt in 1st, Stephanie Haines 2nd and Katie Matheson in 3rd!

The Open Division, also known as “the show” had the privilege/curse of following up the aforementioned wizardry! Apparently this wudn’t no thang and didn’t waste any time on their mission to raise the bar further. Gapping to the down on the down-flat-down rail, 270 backs lips and 180 to switch 5-0s are just a few of the tricks that were on display! A short while later at awards, it was Jon Chew buttoning down 1st, Mathew Butel 2nd and our old friend Tim Nelson placing 3rd! Good show chaps.

First of all, thanks to Danielle Sherman, Rebeckah Hornung, James, Jay and the rest of the fine people at Lake Louise/RCR for all their hard work and stone support. We highlight this PBRJ date on our calendars each year and always have a super fun time! Thanks also to Leroy Seymour, Dirk Yarmush and Matt “the heed” Jenkins for making sense of the world exclusively using their judging clipboards. Last but not least, thanks to Danny Koriath for his fine work behind the lens and Liam Ellicott for counting.
