Pierre how has the Season been? Well not much snow. I also broke my neck early march and was pretty much out for the entire season. I did film super 8 a lot after that, it was the only weight I could carry... Then after a few months I found a tumor in my head (behind ear) so that wasn´t too rad. It set me back editing and stuff for a few weeks. But I like the riders I have to work with and I have pride in the DC brand, so I want to make their riders look as good as I can. I couldn´t really stress either, I mean I could have been in a wheel chair and the tumor is now out of my body. That´s the most important thing. That I´m healty-ish.
You spend most of your time in USA these days. Do you miss Home? Yes,
a lot. But you can´t worry about it too much. I feel like Sweden is
where I want to live, at least in the summers. I´m 30 now and I´ve been
living out if my bags for 10 years soon, it gets old. But I´ve had some
good times in the US too and I have a lot of friends there. Home is
home though.., you know?
How was Filming and riding Riksgransen this past May? How was the Snow? There was a lot of snow. It felt good to film in your home country. Us euros have to spend a lot of time away from home and when you´re able to set something up in your own country it´s pretty sweet. I like that place. I think the riders did too, at least a little. And we were at a resort called Björkliden. Riksgränsen is right next door but they didn´t respond to any of my emails about us coming there and filming. Björkliden did I was very happy to work with them, they were awesome.
Pros and Cons to live in USA? The weather is pretty awesome. Southern California where I live a few months every year is always sunny and moderate temps. In the winter it´s usually a lot easier to find snow and film. It´s where my work is.., and I choose to be here. Cons would be the lack of solidarity in their society and the greed. Money talks in the US, more than in Sweden. being away form family is a con too. If you start to look around to much in the US there´s so much depressing stuff. Lack of health care, poverty, gun laws, religion, oil industry, corruption.. it never ends. I just don´t think too much about the negative, I couldn´t live there if I did.
What camera gear do you use? Usually Arri S or Arri SR 16mm and one A-CAM 16mmcameras,A Sony VX-2100 and a Nizo super 8 camera.
You miss the Robot food days? Yes and no. It was good times. But everything comes to an end.
What do you think about our conversation Talking about the Internet, Video Future Thing? Illegal downloads hasn’t helped my profession. The video and the action sport industry have to adapt to the downloads. I know that hurts the quality, at least now it does, maybe not five years form now. And it’s been hard for filmers to make a living in the past, now it’s even harder. The filmers in snowboarding and skating makes very little money, stealing their videos online doesn’t help them one bit. In Sweden there was a survey in out biggest newspaper about music and movie downloads. 90% felt like downloading should be legal. This proves that people don´t know what they are doing to musicians and artists like them. And it´s hurting the little guys the most. Hollywood will always survive. If people think it´s ok to steal my work I feel like I should be able to fill my car up with gas for free, get groceries for free, fly for free... you get the point... same argument.
Also What do you think About What Zero skateboards does about supporting skateboard shops with out selling blank boards? I´ve heard they give discounts to shops who don´t carry blanks. That´s a really good initiative. On the other hand pro boards here in Sweden are 90 euros, blanks are maybe 60 euros. If your kid goes through 3 boards every summer I can´t blame the parents for buying blanks.
What skate setup do you have? Hmm, an old Habitat board that´s crocked and a local shop board "Stale". Whatever trucks and larger wheels, 54mm maybe. I don´t skate much now though. 10-30 hours a year. The only tricks that stick are shove-its haha.
How many days you still ride with out a camera? Not many. Maybe 5-10 a year. Maybe 15 this year.
Plans for the next season? Who knows? Win the lottery and move to Sweden sound good to me. No lottery pays enough to buy a house in San Diego.
Why do you think is so hard to be ¨CORE these days? I don’t know.
How are the new DC Snowboards? I haven´t tried them. There´s only prototypes out there. But knowing Ken (co-founder) I don´t think it will be anything lame.
You travel a lot, What do you think about American Customs? They have too much authority. I don´t like feeling like a terrorist when I fly there... even now when I pay taxes and have a artist work visa I get hassled. Granted they are only doing their job I still feel like I´m a black person on a white people only golf course.
What can you tell us About the next DC Movie? That it will have sweet airtime.
Any thanks? Family, friends, everyone who helped me out. Too many to mention.
